KY-Z Series Immersed Hydraulic Valve Test Bench

The KY-Z series covers two machines from KANGYUAN: the KY-Z immersed hydraulic valve test bench, and the KY-Z combined small-caliber immersed test bench. On both, the valve is clamped on a table that can be raised, lowered and turned through 90 degrees, and the test is run with the valve under water.

Overview

The immersed principle

The KY-Z series takes the clamping and sealing arrangement of the KY range and puts the test piece under water. On the KY-Z immersed type the machine is delivered as three parts that are connected on site: the hydraulic pump station, the operating console, and the clamping table. The table carries the valve and moves up and down over the pool, so a valve is loaded at working height and then lowered into the water for the test itself.

Immersion changes what the operator can see. With the valve under water, a leak shows as bubbles at the point where it occurs instead of only as a pressure reading that falls. The catalogue gives the immersed arrangement, together with the 90 degree turning function of the clamping table, as the reason the KY-Z bench suits gas pressure testing in particular.

The immersed type is intended for the sealing pressure test and the body pressure test on flange-connected straight-through valves. High and low pressure water pump units are part of the machine, and the test medium is stored and recirculated.

Two versions

The KY-Z immersed type and the combined small-caliber type

The KY-Z series is built in two forms. Both work on the immersed principle; they differ in the size of valve they are intended for, and in the way the clamping and the pump station are arranged.

The clamping table lowers the valve into the pool and turns through 90 degrees, sealing is by flange end face with the clamp jaws behind the flange, and high and low pressure water pump units feed the test circuit. The catalogue carries no parameter table for this type, so its model range and dimensions are confirmed at quotation.

KY-Z Series Combined Small-Caliber Immersed Test Bench

The small-caliber version of the immersed bench, built as a combined machine for small-bore valves and published in six models from KY-Z100 to KY-Z600. The complete parameter table for this series — spacing, strokes, flow, power, water tank dimensions, lift stroke and weight — follows below.

Combined small-caliber series

KY-Z combined small-caliber immersed bench, KY-Z100 to KY-Z600

The combined small-caliber bench is the version of the immersed machine built for small-bore valves. It is published in six models covering DN15 to DN500, with the water tank, the lift stroke and the machine weight increasing with the model size.

What the combined small-caliber bench covers

  • Small-caliber valves of mixed end connections — built for pressure performance testing of small-bore flanged, welded and internally or externally threaded forged-steel valves.
  • Combined clamping — clamp jaws that press and hold the valve, working together with a top-pressing arrangement that holds the valve down onto the seal.
  • Test piece sunk into the water tank — the valve is lowered into the tank on the clamping table, the table travels up and down, and it turns through 90 degrees, which is what makes the design suit gas pressure testing in particular.
  • High and low pressure pump units — both stages are built into the machine, and the test medium is stored and recirculated.
  • Water or air — the test medium is selected by the user when the machine is ordered.
  • Optional computer test data management — pressure sensors, a PLC, an LCD touch screen, printing and CF card storage.

Construction and features

How the KY-Z immersed type is built

Separate pump station, console and clamping table

The hydraulic pump station, the operating console and the working clamping table are separate assemblies that are connected on site. That layout lets the pool and the clamping table be placed where the crane or the roller path reaches them, with the pump station and the console set back from the wet area.

Clamping table that lifts and lowers the test piece

The test piece is carried into the pool by the clamping table rather than being lowered in by hand, so the valve is clamped and sealed in the air and only then immersed. The table travels up and down, which is what makes the same machine usable for a visual check under water and for a normal pressure hold.

90 degree turning for gas pressure testing

The clamping table is fitted with a 90 degree turning function. KANGYUAN gives this as the reason the immersed design suits gas pressure testing in particular, because it allows the test position required by the procedure to be reached with the valve still clamped.

Flange end face sealing, jaws behind the flange

Clamping is by flange end face: the clamp jaws grip the back of the valve flange and the sealing heads close on the machined flange faces. No external force is carried through the valve body while it is under test, so the sealing pressure and body pressure results are not influenced by the clamping arrangement.

High and low pressure pump units

The machine contains both a high pressure and a low pressure water pump unit. The low pressure stage fills the valve quickly, and the high pressure stage takes it up to the test pressure without the operator changing the rig between stages.

Test medium stored and recirculated

The test medium is held in the machine and recirculated instead of being drained to waste after every cycle. That keeps consumption and disposal down when the bench is running all shift, and it keeps the water level in the pool stable between tests.

Water and air

The Chinese catalogue text for the KY-Z immersed type specifies water and air as the test media, selected by the user. The English text on the same catalogue page also lists kerosene; that entry appears to have been copied from the KY series page, so the medium for a KY-Z machine is confirmed at quotation.

Optional computer test data management

A computer test data management system can be ordered with the machine, as on the rest of the KY range: pressure sensors, a PLC, an LCD touch screen, printing of the test record and CF card storage of the data.

Model range

KY-Z immersed type: parameters confirmed at quotation

KANGYUAN publishes no parameter table for the KY-Z immersed type on this page, because the catalogue does not print one: the pages that cover this machine carry its performance features, its structure drawing and its electrical diagram, but no dimensions and pressures. A table assembled without that data would be guesswork, so the parameters of this machine are confirmed at quotation instead. The combined small-caliber series above is a different machine and its table is published from the catalogue.

What is confirmed for the KY-Z immersed type from the catalogue is the scope of the machine:

  • Sealing arrangement — flange end face, with the clamp jaws gripping the back of the valve flange.
  • Test piece handling — clamping table with raising and lowering travel and a 90 degree turning function.
  • Installation — pump station, operating console and clamping table connected on site.
  • Pressurisation — high and low pressure water pump units built into the machine, with the test medium stored and recirculated.
  • Test medium — water and air as specified in the Chinese catalogue text; confirmed at quotation.
  • Data management — optional computer test data management system.

Send the valve type, the size range, the face-to-face lengths and the test pressure you work to. KANGYUAN confirms the model, the clamping table size, the pool arrangement and the pump duty for your valves, and returns them in the technical proposal with the quotation.

Common questions

Specifying a KY-Z immersed bench

What does immersed mean on a KY-Z test bench?

On both KY-Z machines the clamping table sits over a water tank and the valve is tested while it is submerged. The valve is clamped on the table, the table lowers the test piece into the water, and the test is carried out with the valve under water, so a leak shows as bubbles at the point where it occurs. The table can also be turned through 90 degrees, which is the position the catalogue gives for gas pressure testing. On the KY-Z immersed type the pump station, the operating console and the clamping table are connected on site.

Which test medium does the KY-Z series use?

Water and air. The Chinese catalogue text for the KY-Z immersed type specifies water and air, while the English text on the same page also lists kerosene; that line appears to have been carried over from the KY series page. The medium for a KY-Z machine is therefore confirmed with KANGYUAN at quotation, together with the circuit arrangement for each medium.

Why does the clamping table turn through 90 degrees?

KANGYUAN gives the 90 degree turning function of the clamping table as the reason the immersed KY-Z bench suits gas pressure testing in particular. Sealing itself is by flange end face, with the clamp jaws gripping the back of the valve flange, so no external force is carried through the valve while it is under test and the result is not influenced by the clamping arrangement.

What size range does the KY-Z series cover?

The KY-Z combined small-caliber immersed bench is published in six models from KY-Z100 to KY-Z600, covering DN15 to DN500, and its full parameter table is on this page. The KY-Z immersed type is the other machine in the family, and the catalogue carries no parameter table for it, so its model range, dimensions and pressures are confirmed with KANGYUAN at quotation. Send the valve type, the size range and the test pressure you work to, and the model, the clamping table size and the tank arrangement are confirmed in the technical proposal.

Can a KY-Z bench record test data?

Yes. A computer test data management system is available as an option on the KY-Z series, as on the rest of the KANGYUAN KY range. It covers the pressure sensors, a PLC, an LCD touch screen, printing of the test record and CF card storage of the data. Without that option the machine is operated and read from the panel instruments.
