Frequently Asked Questions About Valve Pressure Test Machines

Straight answers on choosing a KY series valve pressure test machine, customising a valve test bench, and what happens between enquiry and commissioning.

These are the questions buyers ask us most often when they compare valve pressure test benches and testing equipment. They cover how to match a machine to your valve, how much of it can be customised, what the equipment can and cannot prove, and how an order runs from enquiry to commissioning. Kangyuan Fluid Control (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd builds the KY series in Wenzhou, Zhejiang. If your question is not here, send it to us directly — a short technical question costs nothing to ask and is usually answered faster than a full quotation.

Choosing the right machine

Which valve pressure test machine fits my valve?

It depends on the valve type, its size and how you handle it. Flange-connected gate, globe and check valves are usually tested on the KY series hydraulic valve test bench, which covers DN15 to DN1000 across the KY-100 to KY-1000 models, or on the KY-B vertical machine when the valve is heavy and has to be loaded upright. Flanged and wafer butterfly valves go on the KY-T300 to KY-T2000 butterfly valve test bench. Large-caliber welded or threaded power-station valves go on the KY-A series. Valves tested with air or gas are usually handled on a KY-Z immersed bench, where the clamping table can turn the valve through 90 degrees. Tell us the valve type, size range and test pressure and we will recommend the family and the model that fits.

How do I choose the right clamping force?

Clamping force has to hold the valve closed against the internal test pressure without crushing the body, so it is calculated from the largest seat bore, the highest test pressure and the valve body material. Oversizing the press costs money and risks distorting light bodies. Undersizing leaks at the seal. On the KY series bench the valve is sealed on the flange end face and clamp jaws grip the back of the flange, so the test result is not affected by external force. Send us the size range and pressure and the clamping force is sized for the largest valve you will test.

Should I choose a vertical machine or a horizontal test bench?

Choose the KY-B vertical machine when valves are heavy, tall or awkward to lift, because the valve is loaded upright and the upper cross-beam can swing back 90 degrees to give access. Choose a bench layout — KY, KY-A, KY-T or KY-Z — when you test many small and medium valves and want shorter handling times, or when the workshop bay has limited headroom. Throughput, floor space and the lifting equipment you already own usually decide it. We build all six families, so the recommendation follows your workshop.

Specification and customisation

Can sizes, flanges and sealing arrangements be customised?

Yes. Platen size, sealing plate and seal material, flange adapters, clamping stroke, clamping force and the frame opening are all made to your valve data. Non-standard flange drilling, wafer bodies and valves with offset ports are normal work for us. If you already own a machine that almost fits your range, send us the frame details and the valve data and we will say what can be adapted to it.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Valve type, size range in DN or NPS, pressure class or the required test pressure, the standard or client specification you test against, and how many valves you expect to test per day or per shift. The power supply available on site is also useful — the KY series runs on 380 V, 50 Hz — and whether the machine must fit an existing bay or container. A drawing or photo of a typical valve helps but is not required for an indicative price.

Can the machine test actuated valves?

Yes, with the right options. The KY-T butterfly valve test bench, for example, is designed for shell and seat pressure testing and also for disc opening and closing and electric actuator torque testing. Machines can be supplied with the space and controls to test valves fitted with electric, pneumatic or hydraulic actuators. Tell us the actuator type, stroke and the supply available and the clamping and control arrangement is configured around the complete assembly rather than the bare valve.

Testing and standards

Which test pressures can the machine reach?

Test pressure is not a single fixed figure. It is set from the valve rating, the class of valve and the standard you test to, and the machine is then built and set to reach and hold that pressure. For reference, on the KY series bench the pressure-regulating range is 0 to 6.3 MPa with a high-pressure boost of 3.0 to 31.5 MPa, and the oil cylinder works up to 31.5 MPa across the series. The KY-A/100 power-station bench is rated for a valve maximum caliber pressure of 32 MPa. Because every unit is configured to order, the working pressure, pump duty and circuit rating for your valve are confirmed in the proposal and verified during the in-house function test before shipment.

Does the machine certify my valves?

No. KANGYUAN supplies the test equipment and configures it to the specification you give us; we do not certify valves. Acceptance of a tested valve remains with you and your inspector, against the standard and acceptance criteria you work to. What the machine provides is a controlled, repeatable way to apply pressure, hold it for the agreed time and record what happened, so your inspection decision rests on evidence.

How are test results recorded?

Machines can be ordered with a computerised test-data management system: pressure sensors, a PLC, a liquid-crystal touch screen, printing and CF-card storage. The system logs pressure against time for each test together with the test parameters and can print or store the record. Machines supplied without that package use analogue or digital gauges with a manual record sheet. The level of recording is chosen at quotation stage, so you only pay for the documentation your customers ask for.

Ordering, delivery and support

What does the ordering process look like?

Send your valve data. We return a technical proposal with the machine layout, clamping method, sealing arrangement, control level, price and lead time. Once the specification and commercial terms are agreed we issue the order confirmation and start engineering, then fabricate, assemble, pipe and function test the machine. Photo and video records are shared before packing, and third-party inspection can be arranged.

What is included with the machine?

A complete machine, assembled, piped, wired and function tested in our workshop before shipment, with operating and maintenance documentation. Export packing is included. Lifting, foundation and site services such as power and water are the buyer's scope, and we supply the drawings and guidance to prepare them. Spare parts and consumable seals are available on request.

What support is available after delivery?

Installation and commissioning guidance, operator training material and remote technical support by email, phone or WhatsApp. The after-sales hotline is +86 133 3577 3099 and the sales hotline, which is also WhatsApp, is +86 187 5776 5223. Spare parts are available on request, and we can quote for an engineer to attend site where the project or the destination makes that practical. Response depends on the time difference, but enquiries from customers who own our machines are treated as a priority.
