KY Series Hydraulic Valve Test Bench

The KY series is the hydraulic valve test bench KANGYUAN builds for sealing pressure and body strength pressure tests on flange-connected straight-through valves. Eight models cover DN15 to DN1000, and the nominal pressure of each model is listed in the parameter table below.

Overview

Eight models, DN15 to DN1000

The KY series is the standard hydraulic valve test bench in the KANGYUAN range. The machine clamps the valve between a fixed and a moving clamping head, seals both flange faces, fills the valve with the test medium and holds it at the pressure your procedure requires. It is used for the sealing pressure test on the valve and for the body strength pressure test on the shell of flange-connected straight-through valves.

The range runs from KY-100 to KY-1000: KY-100, KY-200, KY-300, KY-400, KY-500, KY-600, KY-800 and KY-1000. Nominal diameter starts at DN15 to DN100 on KY-100 and reaches DN500 to DN1000 on KY-1000. The maximum clamping spacing opens from 700 mm to 2350 mm across the range, and the drive power rises from 2.2 kW to 7.5 kW as the frames get larger. Machine weight runs from 1980 kg to 12000 kg, so the model you choose also decides the handling and floor loading in your bay.

The hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and pressure-testing functions are integrated in one machine, together with storage and recirculation of the liquid test medium. The bench therefore arrives as a working unit rather than as a frame plus a separate pump skid, tank and control panel.

Clamping method

Flange-face sealing, with the jaws behind the flange

Clamping is by flange end face. The clamp jaws grip the back of each valve flange and pull the flange faces onto the sealing heads, so the test pressure acts on the valve itself and no external force is carried through the valve body during the test. That is the condition the sealing pressure and body strength tests are meant to reproduce, and it is the reason the clamping method matters as much as the pump.

  • Flange end face sealing — the seal is made on the machined flange face, so the test result is not influenced by clamping force taken through the valve.
  • Turning through 90 degrees — the valve can be turned while it is clamped, which is the position used for gas tightness testing.
  • High and low pressure water pump units — built into the machine, so filling and pressurising are handled by the same unit.
  • Test medium stored and recirculated — the medium is held in the machine and reused instead of being drained away after each test.
  • Water, air or kerosene — the test medium is selected by the user when the machine is ordered.
  • Optional computer test data management — sensors, PLC, LCD touch screen, printing and CF card storage can be added to the machine.

Machine assemblies

The structure drawing of the KY bench identifies the following assemblies, and these are the names KANGYUAN uses for them in the operation manual and the spare-parts list:

  • Left and right clamp jaws, which grip the back of the valve flanges
  • Left and right sealing heads, which carry the flange-face seals
  • The moving frame, which travels on the base to open and close the clamping gap
  • The control side: button panel, hydraulic pressure gauges and the water pressure gauge
  • The water and gas switches for the test circuit
  • The water pump and electric motor in the pump compartment

* Nominal pressure of KY-100: this cell is left unpublished, because the figure printed in the catalogue for this model differs from every other model in the series. KANGYUAN confirms the KY-100 nominal pressure at quotation, and the confirmed figure is the one that appears on the order confirmation. The electrical components listed for the series are JQX-10F/2E relays, YXC-100 electric-contact pressure gauges, JS14A time relays, LA19-110 push-button switches, Y112M-6 motors, NR2-25 thermal relays, CJZ-25[01] contactors, and 42L6 ammeters and voltmeters.

Standards and markets

What the KY series is built to, and where it works

KANGYUAN states that it works to the standards and systems below. They are quoted here as the manufacturer's own quality statement, and each machine is configured so that the pressures and hold times your procedure requires can be reached and held.

  • GB/T13927-92 — General valves, pressure testing.
  • API 598 — valve inspection and testing.
  • ISO 9000 — quality management system.

Test procedures follow GB/T13927-92, API 598 and whatever standard your own specification names.

The machines are used by valve manufacturers, in oil and petrochemical plants, natural gas engineering, power stations, and water supply and drainage works. Units from this range are in service in the United States, Germany, Canada, Spain, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and Taiwan region, as well as elsewhere in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, India and Europe.

Common questions

Specifying a KY series test bench

Which KY model covers our valve size range?

Each KY model is defined by its nominal diameter range and by the maximum and minimum clamping spacing, so the model is selected from the largest and smallest valve you test rather than from the test pressure alone. KY-100 covers DN15 to DN100 and KY-1000 covers DN500 to DN1000, with the six models in between stepping up in size. The largest valve must fit inside the maximum spacing of the model and the smallest must still be held at its minimum spacing. Send the valve type, the size range and the face-to-face lengths and KANGYUAN will confirm the model.

What do the pressure figures in the specification table mean?

The table lists several pressures for every model. Nominal pressure PN is the rating of the valves the model is built to test: KY-200 to KY-400 are 1.0 to 32 MPa, KY-500 and KY-600 are 1.0 to 15 MPa, and KY-800 and KY-1000 are 1.0 to 10.0 MPa. The KY-100 nominal pressure is not published on this page because the figure printed in the catalogue for that model differs from the rest of the series, so it is confirmed at quotation. The pressure-regulating range of 0 to 6.3 MPa, the oil pump pressure of 0 to 5.0 MPa and the high-pressure (booster) stage of 3.0 to 31.5 MPa describe the machine's own hydraulic and test circuits. The clamping circuit and the water test circuit are separate, so the pressure a valve sees during a shell test is set by the test circuit and not by the clamping pressure.

Can a KY bench run a gas tightness test?

Yes. The valve can be turned through 90 degrees while it is clamped in the bench, and that position is the one used for gas tightness testing. The test medium is water, air or kerosene, selected by the user when the machine is ordered.

Is the test data recorded?

A computer test data management system is available as an option on the KY series. It covers the pressure sensors, a PLC, an LCD touch screen, printing of the test record and CF card storage of the data. Without that option the machine is operated and read from the panel instruments.

Which standards do the KY benches work to?

The company works to GB/T13927-92 (General valves - pressure test), API 598 and an ISO 9000 quality management system, and the machines are built so that the pressures those procedures require can be reached and held. The catalogue also cites a valve test and inspection standard whose number is being confirmed before it is published here. Test pressures, hold times and acceptance criteria are always taken from the standard you specify.
